The "Viewers" dropdown on the Main Menu provides access to the Pictometry tool. Once this picklist is expanded, the user can click its icon (), then a location on the Map Frame. This will open a list of routes nearby where the user can select the desired route link to view it in the Pictometry View.
Controls
There are nine controls on the Pictometry View pop-up:
- Compass - Change which direction to view the image from (East, West, North, or Directly Above).

) - Zoom closer to and farther away from the location.

Previous/Next Image (

) - Scroll through the images of the location.
- Select Date - Select a date to narrow the images displayed when scrolling through images.
- Layer - Add layers to the image (Streets and Place Names, Contours, US Parcels).
- Tools - Actions that can be taken in this Viewer, such as panning, measuring an area, and identifying a point.
- Hide/Show Annotations - Hide the results of a "Identify Point" or "Identify Box" action (i.e. remove them from the image) and display them once more.
- Unpin All Measurements - Unpin measurements from the image (Area, Distance, Height, Location, Elevation, or Bearing).
- Export Image to PDF - Export the displayed image in its current state.
Compass
The compass control can change which direction to view the image from (East, West, North, or Directly Above). This can be done by clicking the buttons around the compass or the "Rotate View Clockwise" and/or "Rotate View Counterclockwise" arrows.
Zoom
To zoom into the image, click the plus icon (). To zoom away from the image, click the minus icon (
).
Previous/Next Image
The arrows on either side of the image count can be used to scroll through the images of the location. The images displayed will be dependent on the value chosen in the "Select Date" picklist.
Select Date
The "Select Date" picklist is used to choose a date to narrow the images displayed when scrolling (Next/Previous Image). This defaults to "All Imagery", which will show all images regardless of date. If this is selected, the date at the top of the pop-up will change as the user scrolls.
Layer
This icon opens a picklist that allows user to add layers to the image. There are three options here: Streets and Place Names, Contours, and US Parcels. To add a layer to the image, simply click the checkmark beside the desired row.
Tools
The "Tools" icon opens a picklist for the user to select an action to take in this Viewer. There are ten tools in this list:
- Pan - Click, hold, and drag to explore a different part of the image.
- Export Visible Area - Export the area of all visible maps, then download the image.
- Area - Create a shape to measure the area by clicking points on the image; double-clicking the last point closes the shape and calculates the area.
- Distance - Measure the distance by clicking points on the image; double-clicking the last point finalizes the distance to measure and automatically calculates this value.
- Height - Measure the height by clicking the lower point, then the upper point.
- Location - Click on a location to view its location (latitude and longitude).
- Elevation - Click on a location to view its elevation.
- Bearing - Measure the bearing by clicking points on the map; double-clicking the last point finalizes the measurement and automatically calculates this value. Alternatively, click three points on the image to perform a bearing difference measurement.
- Identify Point - Select layers to search on in the pop-up, save, then click on the map to select a point to identify.
- Identify Box - Select layers to search on in the pop-up, save, then make a box on the image. To do this, click on the image, move the cursor, then click another point on the image.
Hide/Show Annotations
If the "Identify Point" or "Identify Box" tool is used, this will allow the user to hide the results (i.e. remove them from the map) and display them once more ().
Unpin All Measurements
If one or more measurements were performed and pinned (Area, Distance, Height, Location, Elevation, or Bearing), they can be unpinned in one click (). To pin a measurement, the user can click the pushpin icon (
) on the measurement box. Measurements can be individually unpinned on their boxes or unpinned at one time with this button.
Export Image to PDF
This icon allows the user to export the displayed image in its current state. Any measurement pinned on the map, selected layers, or identifying point/box items will be captured in the PDF. When this icon is selected, the user will be prompted to give a name to the PDF. This is an optional step. If no name is given, the PDF will consist solely of the image and image date. The example below has the title of "Test".
