The Custom Fields interface contains the Field Settings for CIP Manager. Only users with the System Administrator security role will have this option available. This interface allows System Administrators to configure the labels and display for many of the existing CIP Manager fields related to a project. This customization allows users to tailor the application to better suit their needs. This tool can be accessed by clicking on the Administration icon on the Utility Bar.
When "Custom Fields" is selected in the Administration picklist, its interface will appear on the screen. The image below shows the Custom Fields interface after a row is selected in the table. When the user first enters this interface, only the left side (table) will be populated.
On the left side, the user can view a table listing of each Custom Field in the system. These columns appear on the table:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| ID | This is the unique ID for the field in the Column Definition database table. This field is automatically set by the system and will always be disabled. |
| Column Name | This is the System Field Name for the field. |
| Display Name | This is the label for the field name (i.e. the name that will be displayed throughout the application). |
| Type | This is a picklist of the custom field types that can be added to the system (Text, Number, Currency, etc.). |
To view more information about a user, the desired row in the table can be clicked. Then, the Detail window on the righthand side will be filled with its information. This area will include the Custom Field's name, a delete icon (), and an "Edit Field" button in the header, and these fields below:
| Field | Description |
| Name | This displays the System Field Name for the field. This field will automatically be set by the system and disabled for all fields. |
| Display Name | This displays the label for the field name (i.e. the name that will be displayed throughout the application). This field is automatically set to the System Field Name by default but can be changed; this field is required. |
| Field Type | This displays the custom field types. This field will be enabled when adding custom fields. |
| Code List | This displays the associated code lists for the selection. This field will be enabled when adding custom fields with a Field Type = Lookup. Custom Code Lists must first be created through the Code List interface before they will be available in this list. |
| Minimum Display Width (px) | This is the minimum display width in pixels for the field. This field will be enabled when adding custom fields and will be limited to 400 as the maximum display size. |
| Description | This contains the description of the field. This field will be enabled when adding custom fields. |
| Required | This designates whether the field will be required prior to saving a project record. |
| Status | This designates whether the Field is Active or Inactive within CIP Manager. |
Edit Field
To edit a custom project field, the user can select a Custom Field in the table, click "Edit Field" in its Detail window, and edit it based on the field type:
- Textbox - type new values
- Picklist - select new values
- Checkbox/Toggle - click to change value
Once a change is made, the "Save Changes" button will appear to allow the user to save the new values. Alternatively, the user can revert the changes to their original values through the available "Cancel" button.
Delete Field
Custom Fields can be deleted using the delete icon in the Detail window. When a custom field is deleted (), a warning message will appear that must be confirmed before deletion. Alternatively, custom fields can be marked as "Inactive", and all data will be retained but no longer displayed. Inactive fields can become "Active" again if desired by editing the field and toggling its status to Active.
Add Field
The "Add Custom Field" button above the Custom Fields table can be used to create a new custom field. After selecting this button, the fields in the Detail window will be set to empty, so the user can enter information about the new custom field. All fields, except "Name", are editable when creating a custom field. Once the user has at least filled all required fields (*), they can select "Save Changes" to create the custom field and place it in the table.
